To prevent PopUp messages from appearing upon print job completion:

Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers
Name: NetPopup
Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 0

To prevent logging to EventLog:

Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers
Name: EventLog
Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 0

You will have to stop and restart the spooler from services in the Control Panel but you may wish to reboot.

If your PC is serving as a remote print server for others, you may get plagued by popup messages about the remote print jobs that have printed. To disable the message that others have printed using your PC,

  • Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
  • From the File menu, click Server Properties.
  • On the Advance tab, click Notify when Remote Documents are Printed so that it is not selected.
  • Stop and restart the Spooler service from the Services portion of Control Panel so the new setting will take effect. In Windows 2000, start and restart the Spooler service from the Services snap-in under Administrative Tools.
