Tip Submission Guidelines

  1. All tips should be original content and expressed in your own words. Tips that directly copy portions of text from Microsoft Knowledge Base articles or other published sources will be summarily rejected.
  2. Tips should generally be short and to the point — one or two paragraphs is usually sufficient to communicate a good practice. If you want to write something longer you can contact our editor to discuss the possibility of writing an article for our site instead.
  3. Tips should be written in a simple, clear language that is grammatically correct. Please spell-check your tip before submitting it as poorly-written tips may be rejected even if the underlying idea is good.
  4. Good tips are not necessarily deeply technical in nature. If you’ve found a valuable resource you want other admins to know about, or a simple way of doing something that is usually difficult, or a simple tweak that can make a big difference to performance or security, that’s a good tip. But a registry hack that solves some problem that almost no once ever encounters, that’s not really what we’re looking for here.
  5. If a tip deals with a specific platform or product, be sure to indicate which editions, versions, or service packs your tip applies to and which it does not apply to. For example, if a tip applies to Windows 2000 but not Windows XP, this should be clearly stated somewhere in the tip.
  6. Please test your tip before submitting it to our site. Tips that express your own personal experience (e.g. “I tried this on my network and it really boosted performance”) are more interesting to our readers than material that’s been assimilated and regurgitated from some other site.
  7. We retain the right to edit your tip in any fashion before publishing it. We also retain the right to reject your tip for any reason without notifying you of our decision. If you’ve submitted a tip and it hasn’t appeared on our home page within two weeks, you can contact our editor to inquire about the reason.
  8. Finally, if you are a frequent contributor of tips to our Admin Knowledge Base, we may also make you a registered user so you can log on and edit your tips as you submit them. Contact us if you’re interested in having this special access. Thanks!
