There is a bit of a gotcha! in Windows XP when you do a file search. XP normally only includes registered file types when searching for files and folders. If you want to be sure that the search is for all files, registered types or not, use the following registry hack for Windows XP :

Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ContentIndex
Name: FilterFilesWithUnknownExtensions
<Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1
