This article explains the DC Options which are not supported by a RODC.

RODC is a Read Only Domain Controller. Windows Server 2008 offers this feature. There are two DC Options not supported by the RODC. These two options are:

  • Making RODC a FSMO

A Domain Controller holding this role needs to write on the partition. Since a RODC contains only the Read Only copy of AD Database.

  • Making RODC a Bridgehead Server

The main function of a Bridgehead server is accept the replication from it's partner and then distribute the changes to the local site domain controllers. RODC only performs Inbound Replication.
