NT installation disk #1 uses ntdetect.com to discover the hardware. If NT's installation process fails during hardware detection (disk #1), create a debug version of disk #1 by replacing ntdetect.com on Installation disk #1 with the debug version:
  • Make a copy of installation disk#1 :

    diskcopy a: a: /v

  • copy debug version on NT installation CD from \support\ntdetect.chk to installation disk #1:

    copy d:\support\ntdetect\chk a:\ntdetect.com

Reboot using the debug version of disk #1 and the debug version of Ntdetect.com will display hardware information on the screen as it is detected. To move to the next screen, press any key. Continue until Setup hangs.
