Two million emails and counting
by Steve,
Product Rating: 5/5
- Our company is using 2 Barracuda SF300s to provide a commercial premium spam filter service for remote and hosted domains. We have been running the service for more than 12 months now and have delivered over two million emails to our customers through the Barracudas.

Though we have had some issues with strange technical support people outside of their normal office hours, I can safely say that we have had almost nothing but great vendor support.

When one of our Barracudas died about 2 weeks ago, we had to wait about a week for a replacement unit (one unit handled the extra load - about another 10000 SMTP connections a day without a hitch). Not too bad when you live in one of the most geographically isolated countries in the world, Our nearest neighbours being Australia (about 1500 miles) and Chile (about 3000 miles).

Barracuda has made my life so much easier!!
by John,
Product Rating: 5/5
- In my 15 years in the field, no decision have I ever been more happy with than the one to purchase my spam firewall 300. My last spam solution was always such a struggle to keep up to date with the latest spam tricks and false positives that email was becoming almost a full time job for me. Since I purchased the 'cuda, I trained it for spam and have practically forgotten that it exists as I rarely have to think about it. I agree that the updates can be a bit buggy at times, I've had a few updates cause me some headaches but (a) its easy to control when these updates happen and, (b) there is a button to revert the updates so if something does go wrong, I can undo it with a simple click of a button and wait a day or two for a fix and run the update again. I would fully recommend this device, I love it!!

Barracuda works well!
by Jim Gillespie,
Product Rating: 5/5
- We have used Barracuda for the past two years, and are very happy with the solution.
Not only does it stop the spam, but the antivirus filters are stopping almost all viruses from even making it to our AV solution. This has made life much easier for me. Only thing missing from our version is an integration to AD. If we had that we'd reduce our quarantines by over 95%.

Spam/nospam
by Dan Sandifer,
Product Rating: 5/5
- We get a barracuda to try for the 30 day trial (which is a great idea, try it and see.)and after 4 days my boss sends me an email that says he went from a couple of hundred spam a day to 1 maybe 2 since it went online. The heck with the trial after that, it got mounted in the rack. In the last month alone we have had 76,000 emails scanned and a total of two false positives (both were email newsletter subscriptions.)

Fading Enthusiasim
by Erik J.,
Product Rating: 3/5
- The box works well for blocking spam. Unfortunately the firmware releases tend to be rather buggy, especially when running multiple servers in a cluster. We've repeatedly had old messages re-appear in users quarantine boxes when Barracuda support re-indexes the users to correct other problems. We've also had one box completely die after only about 6 months of use. Over time, many of these small issues and less than impressive tech support leaves much to be desired from this solution.

Good product bad support
by Ted,
Product Rating: 2/5
- I too bought a 200 unit and it has done wonders. EXCEPT, at the end of the 30 day trial the system fan died and I emailed several times to get a replacement unit which I was told would be shipped. That was in early August and now the latest response I can get from Barracuda is that the unit is outside of the 90 day warranty window. I reminded them with attached emails of my conversations with them that I notified them well within the 90 days several times and was told that the unit would be "RMA"d. I haven’t heard from them in over a week and don’t expect to. All I can say is buyer beware with this company.

hmmmm, let me count the ways I like our Barracuda
by Ron Prine,
Product Rating: 5/5
- We have had our Barracuda 300 since May 2004, in that time it has been a pleasure to use and maintain. The cost is affordable, the work to set it up is almost non existant, and the upkeep is very low. I log into it now and then just to see how well it is blocking spam and viruses. Being that we are in an education enviroment we can't block email at the level the others can, but with our "lax" rules we are blocking between 75-95% of all incoming email depending on the time of day. I would highly reccomend this device to anyone that wants to block email, but they don't want to have to worry about building a new box to do it and they don't want to worry about it being out of date with software/virus definitions/spam rules. All of this is taken care of for you.
Another high mark goes to Barracuda's tech support. Most of my calls relate to wanting the box to do more, and in those cases I find out the box can already do it, or they end up adding that feature in one of the many updates they do. I love the fact that when I call I actually talk to a human and when I email them they do reply quickly with useful info rather than a "A support member is reading your email" letter.
I currently have one wish list item relating to spam blocking and that is to get at least 1 more for our site so we have redundant spam blocking (they are built to cluster BTW).

Optimum Solution
by Doug Bailey,
Product Rating: 5/5
- On a price vs. performance ratio, the Barracuda is head and shoulders above the competition. It works superbly, has blocked over 10,000,000 spams in two months, and has enhanced our users opinion of us. Should also mention that Barracuda's tech support people have been amazingly responsive when I've had questions.

Barracuda Surprised Us
by Bob Hoffman,
- We were using a Trend product that I thought was working well at blocking a lot of our spam and viruses. It would routinely block about 2000 spams a day. But some users were still getting 20 plus spams per day. After I installed the Barracuda, the count jumped to 10,000 per day and finally peaked at around 19,000 per day. To date, nearly 1.5 million spams have been stopped since July. It is easy to set up and operate and starts working the moment you turn bring it on line. It is very cost effective and the tech support is great. Not a perfect product, may require tweaking for each situation, but that's the fun part! I still use my Trend product as a second layer of protection.

No more spam!
by Joel,
Product Rating: 5/5
- I've only been using my Barracuda 200 for a week now and it is blocking out 95% of my spam. It took me a few days to populate the baysian db, but after that, I'm not getting ANY false positives. I love it!

I love the Barracuda!
by Mark Shapiro,
Product Rating: 5/5
- I am a consultant GoGuys.com, I have evaluated and installed many a spam solution - nothing holds a candle to the Barraduca for any company with more than 20 people. I have recommended 2 model 300s for 2 customers - and have been very impressed - so easy to implement, no software to install, Macs, Windows, etc. Auto virus and spam updates, Very little IT time needed, it's kind of loud with it's fans but I love it.
